How to remove a foreign body from the ears?

Foreign bodies are found in the ear canal more frequently in dogs with hanging ears.

In most cases they are spikes (pellets of grass) that once entered, due to their particular shape, are hardly removed by the dog. They try through the shaking of the head, but they tend to get deeper and deeper until they reach the eardrum.

The presence of spikes inside the ear canal causes a lot of pain and discomfort. Dogs scratch the affected ear with insistence crying and moaning and keeping the head crooked.
While a helper holds the dog firmly, carefully observe the entire ear in order to highlight the presence of wounds. Then look at the duct and if there is the foreign body, grab it with the help of some tweezers. Be careful not to let the dog make sudden movements. If the spike is located deep in the duct, do not attempt to remove it at any cost as it could cause injury to the eardrum. In any case, go to the veterinarian as soon as possible.
